My love of tutoring grows out of a love of the power of language to communicate ideas. The exchange of ideas that takes place during a session is an almost musical process. A rhythm emerges from the conversation, a sense of flow that energizes both me and my students. In my twenty plus years of tutoring, I've found that this sense of flow can overcome any mental block a student is facing. Once established, it frees a student up to engage with any subject, and leaves that feeling of freedom in place even after the session is over.  
 

My approach as a tutor is to find that rhythm with every student, in accordance with each one's individual learning style. With reluctant learners, I go slowly, building an understanding of where they ran into trouble with a given subject, helping them to set achievable goals as they approach it anew.

My specialites are in the humanities: English, writing, history, philosophy, critical thinking, and film, though I've taught many other subjects as well. I have helped thousands of students master the skills behind standardized tests, including the SAT, ACT, GRE, and GMAT.
